BORN IN THE ITALIAN ALPS
The Stella Alpina crystal deposit is truly unique.
Since 2025, Bagnara has been working in close coordination with the quarry operator to identify areas of the deposit suitable for the extraction of high-quality crystal blocks for architecture and design. The selected blocks are exclusively distributed by Bagnara.
The deposit follows a spiral formation within a crystal “pocket” of remarkable dimensions: 260 metres long, 50 metres wide and 150 metres deep, with an estimated total volume of 1.5 million cubic metres.
Given the exceptional purity of the material, the deposit was originally quarried primarily for industrial use. Today, Bagnara brings its natural stone expertise to the ongoing assessment and selection of blocks intended for architectural applications, in close coordination with the quarry operator. Stella Alpina features shades of white, grey and silver, with distinctive cloud-like structures and translucent effects.
The deposit is exceptional not only for its scale, but also for its rarity: finding a natural crystal of this quality in Europe in such substantial quantities is a rare occurrence.
The blocks extracted and selected from the quarry are transported to the Bagnara site in Cavaion Veronese (Verona) for processing.
Our vertical expertise at every stage of the supply chain enables us to maintain maximum control at all times. This is a choice that sets us apart and one we have made to ensure excellence throughout the entire process. Once they arrive at their destination, the blocks are weighed, measured and further inspected by experts, before being cut.
The dimensions of each block vary depending on the nature and characteristics of the material encountered at the time of extraction.
SLABS
We supply Stella Alpina in slabs, favouring 3 m x 2 m sizes to ensure the product’s versatility. Given its high resistance to acids and staining substances, Stella Alpina is particularly suitable for use in demanding environments such as the kitchen and bathroom. Its characteristic transparency allows it to be backlit, creating truly unique and striking plays of light, ideal for personalising projects and spaces. Once cut, the slabs are prepared for the subsequent finishing stages.
Stella Alpina is available in three main finishes: polished, honed and satin-finished, to create different effects depending on intended use, and the taste and preferences of the designer or client. The finishing techniques are designed to bring out the beauty of this unique, extraordinary material in different ways.
In addition to traditional finishes, there are also more distinctive finishes such as ‘corteccia, crosta and sandwaterjet’. Customisations can also be considered on request.
This finish reflects light, creating a brilliant effect that evokes a sense of luxury and exclusivity in the spaces where the material is used. The finish brings out even the tiniest details of the stone, thereby showcasing the fullness of its natural beauty. It is ideal for anyone who wants their projects and interiors to have elegant style and plenty of character.
Thanks to this finish, light is more diffuse, softer and more even across the slab. It still feels smooth to the touch, but with a pleasantly ‘silky’ texture. The stone takes on a matt, understated and elegant appearance. The end result is perfect for adding a personal touch to modern, sophisticated settings.
With this type of finish, the material acquires a distinctive velvety feel due to its slightly textured, tactile surface. Light appears even more subtle than in other traditional techniques. The result is a warm, eye-catching aesthetic, ideal for creating cosy, sophisticated atmospheres.
